Mission: Serenity House Inc. is a charitable, non-profit organization operating in Ottawa since 1969.  Our residential treatment service is dedicated to improving the quality of life for men with substance use disorders.  We use a holistic treatment style, adapting our programs to the needs of the people we serve in order to promote healthy integration of body, mind and spirit.

Purpose: Our purpose is to increase clients’ ability to live free from their dependency on alcohol, drugs and other addictions, to promote self-esteem and personal development, to foster a sense of independence and accountability, to guide individuals towards a more balanced lifestyle and to direct clients towards the building of strong community-based network of mutual support.  We give individuals and their families tools to create hope for a better quality of life in all determinants of health, be it physical, social, legal, emotional, mental, spiritual or housing.

We try to accomplish this by remaining abreast of new developments in the treatment of addictions and mental health by offering a program that incorporates those changes and by working closely with our health partners in all areas of the Champlain healthcare system.

Our Residential Treatment Program consists of treatment planning, educational sessions, relapse prevention, case management, group and individual counseling, harm reduction, life skills training, discharge planning, as well as community education and awareness; these services are delivered by skilled, professional staff.

Serenity House operates an additional 29 beds in 4 separate Supportive Houses for those who require additional support and to provide a safe environment free from alcohol and drugs where people can start to put into practice the skills learned in treatment.  Best practices suggests at least one year in a drug-free environment for better long-term results; clients are encouraged to excel in skills needed to become self-sufficient and return to the work force with a strong commitment to on-going abstinence from addictive substances.  This service fills a much needed gap in the community as after treatment, most clients require this unique extended care.

Serenity House is a member of both The Federation of Mental Health and Addictions Programs and of Addictions Ontario.  We stay involved in our community through our dedicated Board of Directors and by our membership and work on numerous volunteer committees and boards in order to help promote integration for better health for all people of our Champlain District.
